(PRUnderground) March 10th, 2026

Today, independent author and multidisciplinary creator Sara Causey revealed a curious discovery: a postcard dated 1992, written completely in German, and postmarked from California, sent by an unknown individual.

The card references people Causey has never met and includes the puzzling line, “We left our socks in the South.”

“I kept looking at it,” said Causey. “It reads like correspondence that somehow slipped its intended destination by a few decades. They are like breadcrumbs. Literary breadcrumbs. Like they want me to find a story inside the objects.”

This unexpected postcard is the latest in a string of unusual items Causey has received from strangers around the world. Last year, a Swedish man mailed her a copy of UN Secretary-General Dag Hammarskjöld’s doctoral dissertation, explaining that it should belong to someone who would make good use of it.

Another American individual reached out offering mint-condition commemorative plates honoring President John F. Kennedy, insisting they were “meant” for her.

To Causey’s knowledge, none of the senders knows one another. None requested anything in return.

These incidents have raised speculation among Causey’s followers, adding a layer of Cold War noir intrigue to her already distinctive creative persona.

One theorized that these items could become an art installation. Another added, “This is some David Lynch [stuff],” referencing Lynch’s 1997 film, Lost Highway.

“I’m not trying to decipher it,” said Causey. “I’m just along for the ride.”

Causey, whose body of work ranges from biography and children’s literature to fantasy and forthcoming animation projects, intends to archive the items together.

“If there’s a story here,” she added, “it will reveal itself in time.”
