What To Expect From Watsco’s (WSO) Q3 Earnings

Equipment distributor Watsco (NYSE: WSO) will be reporting earnings this Wednesday before the bell. Here’s what to expect.

Watsco missed analysts’ revenue expectations by 7.2% last quarter, reporting revenues of $2.06 billion, down 3.6% year on year. It was a disappointing quarter for the company, with a significant miss of analysts’ revenue estimates and a significant miss of analysts’ adjusted operating income estimates.

This quarter, analysts are expecting Watsco’s revenue to decline 1.7% year on year to $2.12 billion, a reversal from the 1.6% increase it recorded in the same quarter last year. Adjusted earnings are expected to come in at $4.22 per share.

Analysts covering the company have generally reconfirmed their estimates over the last 30 days, suggesting they anticipate the business to stay the course heading into earnings. Watsco has missed Wall Street’s revenue estimates six times over the last two years.

Looking at Watsco’s peers in the industrial distributors segment, some have already reported their Q3 results, giving us a hint as to what we can expect. Richardson Electronics delivered year-on-year revenue growth of 1.6%, beating analysts’ expectations by 6%, and VSE Corporation reported revenues up 3.4%, topping estimates by 2.3%.
