Why Getty Images (GETY) Shares Are Sliding Today

GETY Cover Image

What Happened?

Shares of visual content marketplace Getty Images (NYSE: GETY) fell in the afternoon session after the company reported mixed third-quarter 2025 results. The visual content marketplace reported revenue of $240 million, which was flat year-over-year but in line with Wall Street's estimates. The main highlight for investors was the company's profitability. Getty reported adjusted earnings per share of $0.08, which was 84.5% higher than the consensus analyst estimate of $0.04. The company also beat expectations for adjusted EBITDA, a key measure of profitability, coming in at $78.71 million. Adding to the positive sentiment, Getty Images' full-year EBITDA guidance of $292 million at the midpoint was also above analysts' projections.

The stock market overreacts to news, and big price drops can present good opportunities to buy high-quality stocks. Is now the time to buy Getty Images? Access our full analysis report here.

What Is The Market Telling Us

Getty Images’s shares are extremely volatile and have had 55 moves greater than 5% over the last year. In that context, today’s move indicates the market considers this news meaningful but not something that would fundamentally change its perception of the business.

The previous big move we wrote about was 11 days ago when the stock gained 3.7% on the news that the company announced a global, multi-year licensing agreement with the AI-powered search and discovery platform, Perplexity. The deal provided Perplexity with access to Getty's extensive library of high-quality creative and editorial images to enhance its search tools. The images were set to be integrated through Getty's API technology. As part of the agreement, Perplexity also planned to improve how it displays imagery, including adding credits with links to the source, to help educate users on the legal use of licensed content. The market reacted with strong enthusiasm to the news, leading to a massive surge in trading volume. Reports showed that more than 34 million shares changed hands, a significant jump from the average of about 733,000.

Getty Images is down 18.2% since the beginning of the year, and at $1.73 per share, it is trading 51.8% below its 52-week high of $3.58 from November 2024. Investors who bought $1,000 worth of Getty Images’s shares 5 years ago would now be looking at an investment worth $176.38.

While Wall Street chases Nvidia at all-time highs, an under-the-radar semiconductor supplier is dominating a critical AI component these giants can’t build without. Click here to access our full research report.
