Why Impinj (PI) Stock Is Up Today

PI Cover Image

What Happened?

Shares of RFID manufacturer Impinj (NASDAQ: PI) jumped 4.7% in the afternoon session after investors appeared to focus on the company's strong historical growth metrics, which pointed to a promising outlook. A report highlighted the radio-frequency identification (RFID) maker's performance over the previous five years, noting that annual revenue grew by 20.2%. This suggested that the company increased its market share during that time. Furthermore, its annual earnings per share growth of 49.4% outpaced its revenue gains, signaling strong profitability. The company's free cash flow margin also expanded by 15.8 percentage points over the same period, giving it more cash to use for its operations. The positive reaction from the market came even as news surfaced that Sylebra Capital sold shares worth nearly $9.8 million in late November.

The shares closed the day at $168.07, up 3.4% from previous close.

What Is The Market Telling Us

Impinj’s shares are extremely volatile and have had 37 moves greater than 5% over the last year. In that context, today’s move indicates the market considers this news meaningful but not something that would fundamentally change its perception of the business.

The previous big move we wrote about was 8 days ago when the stock gained 2.7% on the news that renewed enthusiasm for Alphabet reinvigorated the artificial intelligence trade, propelling a market rebound heading into the Thanksgiving holiday. The Nasdaq index jumped 2.6% and the S&P 500 gained 1.6%, driven by a 5% rally in Alphabet following the announcement of its upgraded Gemini 3 AI model. This optimism spilled over into the broader tech sector, lifting shares of Broadcom, Micron, and Palantir significantly. The rally built on momentum from the previous trading session, sparked by the New York Fed president keeping the door open for a December interest rate cut.

Impinj is up 14.5% since the beginning of the year, but at $168.07 per share, it is still trading 30.5% below its 52-week high of $241.91 from October 2025. Investors who bought $1,000 worth of Impinj’s shares 5 years ago would now be looking at an investment worth $3,875.

Microsoft, Alphabet, Coca-Cola, Monster Beverage—all began as under-the-radar growth stories riding a massive trend. We’ve identified the next one: a profitable AI semiconductor play Wall Street is still overlooking.Go here for access to our full report.
