Dr. Amir Haydarian Advocates for Stronger Oral Health Education in Toronto Communities

By: Zexprwire

Toronto dentist calls for community-driven action to prevent dental disease through local awareness and early intervention

Ontario, Canada, 15th May 2025, ZEX PR WIRE, With over 28 years of dental experience in the Mount Pleasant area, Dr. Amir Haydarian is using his voice to spotlight a local concern with far-reaching effects: the need for stronger oral health education and early prevention efforts within Toronto’s neighborhoods.

“Too many people in our own backyard are suffering from completely preventable dental issues,” says Dr. Haydarian. “Tooth decay, gum disease, and even dental emergencies often stem from a lack of education—not just access.”

Recent public health data from the Ontario Ministry of Health shows that over 2 million work or school days are lost annually in the province due to dental problems. In some Toronto neighborhoods, more than 40% of adults report not having seen a dentist in the past year—not because of lack of services, but because of lack of understanding about when and why to seek care.

“It’s not just about brushing your teeth,” explains Dr. Haydarian. “It’s about knowing the signs of gum disease, the impact of sugar, and how oral health connects to heart health, diabetes, and more.”

Dr. Haydarian has been serving the Toronto community since 1996. In addition to running his dental practice, he has volunteered at the Imam Mahdi Islamic Centre since 2009 and supported food banks since 2021. But now, he believes local oral health needs a more grassroots approach.

“I see patients every day who didn’t realize they had a problem until it was painful or costly. By that time, it’s much harder to fix. Education is prevention—and prevention is everything.”

His message: the community doesn’t have to wait for system-wide changes. Small, local efforts can make a major difference.

Dr. Haydarian’s call to action for Toronto residents:

  • Start the conversation. Talk to friends, neighbors, and community members about the importance of regular dental checkups—even if you’re not in pain.

  • Share what you know. Post tips on social media, help seniors understand their dental benefits, or mentor young people on hygiene basics.

  • Support local schools and centers. Volunteer to help with oral health events or campaigns at community hubs, mosques, churches, or schools.

  • Lead by example. Take your kids to their cleanings. Ask questions at your own appointments. Show that oral health is a lifelong priority.

Dr. Haydarian is also developing free resources through his website to help people learn more and spread awareness locally. “We all have a role,” he says. “Dentists can’t do it alone. But together—as a community—we can change the way people think about their health, one conversation at a time.”
