About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

Total Economic Impact Study Finds 1E Digital Employee Experience Platform Delivered 202% Return on Investment

By: via Business Wire

Research shows 1E customers see improved communications and coordination across IT teams, payback period of less than six months

1E, a leader in Digital Employee Experience (DEX), today announced the results of the commissioned Forrester Consulting Total Economic Impact (TEI™) study, examining the potential return on investment (ROI) enterprises realize by deploying 1E’s software.

The study found that a composite organization - a global enterprise with 20,000 endpoints and an internal service desk team including 200 engineers - achieved an ROI of 202% and a net present value (NPV) of $5.11 million over the course of three years. Further, the analysis found that the payback period for 1E is less than 6 months, and in the first year, the tangible cost savings and helpdesk headcount reallocation benefits alone more than cover the total costs.

"The pandemic made digital employee experience a boardroom issue, however tough economic outlook will separate the wheat from the chaff when it comes to the ROI of DEX" said Amy Collins, SVP Product Marketing at 1E. "In our opinion, this Forrester Consulting study clearly shows the hard ROI of the 1E DEX platform, which we believe sets it apart from the competition."

The study found that the three-year, risk-adjusted present value (PV) quantified benefits for the composite organization include:

  • Service desk headcount reallocation benefits total more than $3.5M.
  • Improved employee productivity equal to $2.5M in value and improved employee retention valued at more than $600K.
  • Legacy tool decommissioning savings worth $183K and total hardware cost savings equaling $200K.
  • Planning, implementation, and training costs of $114K.
  • IT project efficiencies rose and were valued at $274K, with IT security efficiencies specifically being at $317K.

Unquantified benefits include improved communications across IT teams - enabling better coordination and collaboration while avoiding confrontation - and improved IT recognition.
