Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

Service Restoration Responds to Emergency Bank Flood in Minnesota

Service Restoration, a water damage restoration company based in Maple Grove, recently completed an urgent mitigation project for a flooded banking facility. The response included complete water extraction, structural drying, and post-loss reporting to help the property reopen in a matter of days.

The bank, located in Minnesota, experienced a significant plumbing failure that caused thousands of gallons of water to pour through multiple floors of the building. The damage impacted over 9,000 square feet of commercial space. Service Restoration received the emergency call and deployed crews within hours.

This emergency response is now documented in a featured case study published on Medium. The article details the step-by-step mitigation strategy and the outcome of the restoration effort.

Commercial Flood Response in Action

According to Dalton Schmidt, a spokesperson for Service Restoration, the scale and urgency of this flood required advanced coordination and immediate action.

“This wasn’t just a wet floor - the water had penetrated walls, ceilings, insulation, and subflooring across multiple levels,” Schmidt said. “The team deployed dozens of air movers and commercial-grade dehumidifiers to stabilize conditions fast and reduce further damage.”

The crew used thermal imaging and moisture meters to map wet materials and guide demolition of saturated drywall and flooring. In total, 80 air movers, 7 commercial dehumidifiers, and specialized wall-drying equipment were used to bring the building back to pre-loss dryness levels.

All work was completed in just five days. The project team provided full documentation for the building owner and insurance provider.

The event was highlighted in a Twitter update from Service Restoration’s local branch. The tweet includes a direct snapshot of the project scope and can be viewed here:

Commercial Properties at Risk: Importance of Rapid Response

Commercial water damage poses significant risks to both infrastructure and operations. Extended downtime can lead to lost revenue, while standing water may compromise electrical systems, structural integrity, and air quality. Delayed response also increases the risk of mold, requiring more extensive and costly remediation later.

By acting quickly and using high-capacity drying systems, Service Restoration avoided long-term disruptions for the bank involved in this case. The mitigation effort ensured a fast reopening and reduced total losses.
