About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

Historic Dupont Circle Main Streets, honors the 75th anniversary of the book on the mind, written in the area: Dianetics: The Original Thesis

The forerunner to the worldwide bestseller Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health was recognized in Washington, DC, at its place of authorship

Celebrating the 75th anniversary of the writing of Dianetics: The Original Thesis by L. Ron Hubbard, a certificate of special recognition was presented by board members of the Historic Dupont Circle Main Streets to executives of the Friends of L. Ron Hubbard Foundation. Hubbard wrote Dianetics: The Original Thesis in the Dupont Circle neighborhood of Washington, DC.

Mr. Hubbard lived in Washington, DC, numerous times throughout his life including during prep school; while studying at George Washington University, where he was the editor of the GW Hatchet newspaper; and as the first executive director of the Founding Church of Scientology in 1955.

After moving to New York in his early years to pursue his writing career and then entering the Navy during World War II, Hubbard returned to Washington where he resided on R Street NW in the late 1940’s. While there, he penned Dianetics: The Original Thesis, which was the first description of the subject of Dianetics. The book was originally circulated in manuscript form to a few friends, and was soon copied and passed hand-to-hand to others around the world. Readers of this manuscript sent numerous letters to Mr. Hubbard asking for more information on the subject of Dianetics. In fact, the interest generated by the manuscript was so great that Hubbard concluded the only way to answer all the inquiries was to write a book. That book was Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health, first published in 1950 and now an all-time bestseller on the mind. Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health was on the New York Times bestseller list for 26 consecutive weeks in 1950, and has remained a bestseller with more than 20 million copies sold internationally.

Mr. Hubbard’s apartment was on R Street NW in the historic Dupont Circle area of Washington, DC, an upscale neighborhood with a high concentration of embassies, art galleries, think tanks and many old homes listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Proud of the neighborhood’s history, the Historic Dupont Circle Main Streets board was pleased to present a certificate of special recognition honoring Mr. Hubbard’s writing of Dianetics: The Original Thesis. Historic Dupont Circle Main Streets was established over 20 years ago to promote local businesses, plan the improvements of the cultural and economic qualities of Dupont Circle, and maintain those improvements to make the neighborhood an exemplary place to live, work, and play.

Reverend Susan Taylor of the Church of Scientology National Affairs Office and an executive board member of Historic Dupont Circle Main Streets, thanked Historic Dupont Circle Main Streets, saying, “Scientology is proud to be part of the rich history of the Dupont Circle area from the times that Mr. Hubbard spent in this area as a youth, to his penning of Dianetics: The Original Thesis,  to the establishing of The Founding Church of Scientology, all within blocks of the famous Dupont Circle fountain. This special recognition of Mr. Hubbard’s first book on the subject of Dianetics and a part of the history of our faith is warmly accepted and appreciated.”

The Church of Scientology has remained in this neighborhood since the church’s founding in 1955, and has expanded to several other landmarks including the Fraser Mansion, home of the Church of Scientology National Affairs Office; the L. Ron Hubbard House at the original 1955 Founding Church location, now open to the public as a museum; and the current Founding Church of Scientology building on 16th Street NW where the congregation meets now.

Mandy Warfield, Board President Historic Dupont Circle Main Streets, and Ann Blackwell, Executive Director Historic Dupont Circle Main Streets, presented the certificate of special recognition to executives from the Friends of L. Ron Hubbard Foundation. Also attending were James Gebara, PNC Bank Manager and Historic Dupont Circle Main Streets Board member; Rev. Sue Taylor, Church of Scientology National Affairs Office, Historic Dupont Circle Main Streets Board Secretary and Mesha Williams, Historic Dupont Circle Main Streets Board Member, representing the residents of Dupont Circle.
