Shincheonji Church of Jesus Taekwondo Team Shines on the World Stage

All Team Members Win Prizes in Consecutive International Competitions

NEW YORK, NY, July 24, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The taekwondo team of Shincheonji Church of Jesus showed their skill and prowess on the world stage. All team members won prizes in the 2025 Park Chung-hee Cup International Open Taekwondo Competition held in South Korea.

The competition was hosted by the Park Chung-hee Cup Organizing Committee and co-hosted by the Gyeongbuk Taekwondo Association and the Sangju City Taekwondo Association. Approximately 4,200 athletes from 18 countries --- including Korea, the United States, and France --- participated in a heated competition at the Sangju Indoor Gymnasium from July 18-21.

The taekwondo team from Shincheonji Church of Jesus the Temple of the Tabernacle of the Testimony had a total of 25 athletes participate in the individual competition held on July 19th. Their focused training and persistent effort led the team to win four gold medals, seven silver medals, and 14 bronze medals.

"Although we did not have enough training time, we tried to focus as much as possible within the given time," said gold medal winner Lee Jun-wi. "I am grateful that our efforts led to good results."

"As this is an international competition, many excellent domestic and foreign players participated and competed at a high level," said Coach Kim Deok-hoon. "I am proud that the players demonstrated their skills without wavering. Based on this competition, we will systematically prepare a training system and strategy so that we can participate with more people and improved skills next year."

The Shincheonji taekwondo national team also achieved outstanding results at the 2025 Kim Un-yong Cup International Open Taekwondo Competition held in Busan. The entire team won medals. Among the participants, two won first-place awards, four won second-place awards and five participants won third-place awards.

The Shincheonji team has achieved excellent results in domestic and international competitions, establishing itself as a national team with both skill and stable team management. At the 2024 Mungyeong World Taekwondo Festival, five out of 18 participants won medals.

Shincheonji Church carries out activities to promote talent development in various fields such as sports, culture, and the arts. The church plans to continue also promoting healthy living through sports in the future.
