National Diversity Council Announces Participating Companies in the NDC Index

HOUSTON, May 10, 2022 /3BL Media/ – The National Diversity Council announced today the 43 companies that participated in the 2022 NDC Index and, among them, the four companies to make the Best U.S. Companies for Diversity list. The NDC Index is an annual measurement of organizational commitment to diversity and inclusion among companies in the United States. It rates companies on CEO engagement; benefits, policies, and initiatives; supplier diversity; community engagement; and corporate social responsibility. To be on the Best U.S. Companies for Diversity list, companies must score from 90 to 100 points in the NDC Index. This year’s Best U.S. Companies for Diversity in alphabetical order are The Auto Club Group, Blue Shield of California, Comerica Bank, and Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of NJ.

Angeles Valenciano, chief executive officer at the National Diversity Council, recognized the companies for their results.

“We congratulate the Best U.S. Companies for their leadership in diversity and inclusion,” Valenciano said. “Their outstanding performance on the NDC Index is an inspiration to many others who are doing the essential work of creating inclusive workplaces.” 

Valenciano pointed out that intentionality pays back and the 43 companies that participated in the 2022 NDC Index will be able to strengthen their diversity and inclusion efforts both in the short and long term. 

Dennis Kennedy, founder and chairman of the National Diversity Council, commended these companies for maintaining a focus on their diversity and inclusion efforts through two years of political, economic, and health-related challenges.

“COVID-19 has transformed the workplace forever and, today more than ever, employees expect an engaged and inclusive leadership,” Kennedy said. “The NDC Index is an important benchmark to measure progress in this area, and we are proud to see a steady increase of participants year after year.” Kennedy praised the Best U.S. Companies for Diversity “for setting a strong trajectory and moving the needle in the diversity and inclusion space.” 

The Best U.S. Companies commented on their efforts:

Chief Executive Officer at Blue Shield of California, Paul Markovich said, “At Blue Shield of California, our dedication to diversity, equity and inclusion is at the core of our mission to create a healthcare system worthy of our family and friends.” Markovich continued, “We are committed to sustaining an inclusive culture and representation across all levels to reflect the communities we serve.”

“Horizon is proud to be recognized by the National Diversity Council as one of the Best U.S. Companies for Diversity,” commented Alison Banks-Moore, Vice President & Chief Diversity Officer, EO/AA, WorkLife Initiatives at Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of NJ. “Our ongoing efforts to create a Culture of Excellence for our employees, members, and communities is one of value and priority. The results of the 2022 NDC Index reflects those efforts.”

Comerica’s Chief Diversity Officer and Senior Vice President, Head of Talent Acquisition, Nate Bennett, said of Comerica’s high-ranking results: “Diversity, equity and inclusion positively impacts all areas of the bank, helping us to better serve our customers, colleagues and communities.” Bennett also remarked, “Participation with the NDC Index helps Comerica continue to improve our best-in-class Diversity, Equity and Inclusion programming for our colleagues. Additionally, the benchmarking feedback that we receive from the National Diversity Council Index continues to drive our ability to impact the communities we serve and advance racial equity.”

Vice President and Chief Diversity Officer AAA – The Auto Club Group, Ken Mathies, said, “At AAA – The Auto Club Group, we aim to maintain a diverse workforce with equitable outcomes for employees in an inviting, inclusive workplace. We stand committed to our DE&I strategic initiatives designed to strengthen our culture and create meaningful and sustainable growth.” Mathies also said optimistically, “We are extremely honored to receive this recognition and we encourage other DE&I practitioners to stay the course, you are making a difference.”

All NDC Index participating companies receive a complimentary NDC Index Report to help them identify strengths and opportunities in their diversity and inclusion strategy. The report includes a best practices scorecard and a comparative analysis of the assessment areas across participating companies. Additional benchmarking services are available for a fee.
