New book "Love Songs of the Zombie" by Ronald Stephens is released, an in-depth, nuanced examination of purpose that aims to reconcile spirituality, philosophy, and science

“Love Songs of the Zombie: To Humanity at the Dawn of a New Millennium” by Ronald Stephens has been released worldwide. This unique book of philosophical exploration, poetry, and prose is built upon a lifetime of spiritual seeking and a decades-long career in applied sciences, reflecting the author’s determination to understand the nature of existence across the seemingly opposed fields of religion and logic. Throughout his writing, Stephens fearlessly grapples with the paradoxes of humanity to reconcile faith and reason, drawing from a deep well of information that spans world religions, quantum physics, personal reflections, and master philosophers.

With degrees in physics and mathematics, a career in the fine details of time measurement, and a lifelong fascination with spirituality, the author has compiled seventy years of wisdom and contemplation into these writings. He infuses his poetry with references and influences from a broad range of sources, from the King James Bible to Shakespeare, classic Chinese poetry to medieval and romantic literature, which all serve to anchor the universality of his message: that faith can be compatible with modern science and reason.

Among the specific topics covered in these poems and vignettes, the most prominent is the idea of “theodicy” - why terrible things happen to good people - and how that functions with concepts of a benevolent and omnipotent God. Stephens also examines the mysteries of time, finding a sense of purpose (as well as a unified purpose for all of humanity), and the boundary between the knowable and unknowable. Meticulously crafted and beautifully written, this thought-provoking collection offers readers insight into a frame of mind where spirituality and science coexist with ease, creating a worldview of both wonder and acceptance that can be referenced again and again.

Love Songs of the Zombie (ISBN: 9781961532946) can be purchased through retailers worldwide, including Barnes and Noble and Amazon. The paperback retails for $17.99 and the ebook retails for $4.99. Review copies and interviews are available upon request.

From the back cover:

Is there a God? Can religion be compatible with science? Why do terrible things happen to good people? You are on a lifetime journey seeking answers to these questions. The author, a scientist and business leader, shares insights carefully collected and collated during his 70-year quest, and provides some surprising, illuminating, and stimulating ideas to point you in the right direction.

"Ron Stephens does not write poetry or prose so much as he writes holy texts. With his layered, complex, mystical, and yet down-to-earth language, he manages to see eternity not just in a grain of sand, as Blake did, but in every object he encounters, in every experience, and in every tick of the clock. Loves Songs of the Zombie is an astonishing work-heartfelt, quirky, unorthodox as hell, but wholistic and hopeful. In Stephens's work, to my appreciative surprise, I see the revival of the spirit of the great mystic poet Angelus Silesius. Stephens is worth reading, reading again, and taking seriously.”- Robert Hudson, author, The Beautiful Madness of Martin Bonham, The Poet and the Fly, Kiss the Earth When You Pray, and several others.

About the author:

Ronald Dean Stephens was born on October 19, 1952, in Cincinnati, Ohio. He received degrees in physics and mathematics from DePauw University and in Business Administration from the University of Cincinnati. He worked for more than 47 years in the electronics industry, including as president of three different companies designing and manufacturing crystal oscillators, precision timing devices that are essential to commercial and military space programs, including the GPS system. Ron and his wife Kathleen have four beautiful children, Meghan, Rebecca, Jennifer, and Michael. Ron has written poetry and prose continuously for over 50 years, exploring the meaning of life, and focused on his interests in philosophy, religion, and science. As a youth, Ron belonged to a Baptist church. Being interested in world religions, and studying them, he joined the Baha'i Faith for several years in his 40's and early 50's, before joining the Catholic Church at the age of 65. Ron has resided in Redondo Beach California for the last 17 years.
