Nachawati Law Group Bolsters Public Entity Practice with Veteran Lawyer Phil Carlson

Former assistant attorney general brings public-sector experience, complex litigation expertise to firm’s growing public entity litigation group

Nachawati Law Group is expanding its public entity representation and mass torts practice groups with the addition of veteran trial lawyer and former Nebraska Assistant Attorney General Phil Carlson.

Nachawati Law Group’s nationally respected public entity practice group partners with states, cities, school districts, tribes and other governmental organizations in a range of complex litigation.

The firm’s experience in this area includes taking on leadership roles on behalf of entities that have suffered damages caused by the makers, distributors and retailers of highly addictive opioid painkillers, as well as manufacturers that have polluted water with dangerous PFAS “forever chemicals.”

“This is a specialized area of the law that requires expertise in complex litigation and the ability to partner and work closely with government legal teams. Phil has a rare combination of those skills,” said Nachawati Law Group founder Majed Nachawati.

Mr. Carlson served as chief of the Nebraska Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Bureau and previously served in the South Dakota Attorney General’s office. He has held leadership positions in multistate cases, including a 40-jurisdiction litigation that resulted in a $391.5 million deceptive trade practices settlement with Google over location tracking of users for advertising purposes. In addition, he led opioid litigation on behalf of the state of South Dakota as part of a coordinated multistate group of plaintiffs.

“The ability to forge relationships and build coalitions is critically important in cases that involve public entity plaintiffs,” Mr. Carlson said. “Nachawati Law Group is a respected and growing law firm that has demonstrated its abilities in this area, and I’m excited to join this team.”

The public entity practice group is led by attorney Brian McMath, who previously served as senior counsel with the New Mexico Office of the Attorney General.

“I’ve had the opportunity to work alongside Phil in important multistate litigation,” Mr. McMath said. “I’ve seen the way he works closely with in-house public entity legal teams and takes on leadership roles in litigation. Our public sector group will benefit from his expertise and the relationships he’s built.”

Nachawati Law Group represents individuals in mass tort litigation and complex personal injury litigation and businesses and governmental entities in contingent litigation. For more information visit https://ntrial.com
