Stream2Sea announces a groundbreaking innovation in reef-safer sunscreens that nourishes threatened coral reefs.

By: Get News

Stream2Sea collaborated with Coral Scientist Professor Michael Sweet, head of the Nature-based Solutions Research Centre at the University of Derby, a global marine and coral research authority, to develop Coral Care. The product has undergone the most rigorous sunscreen trials in literature and is scientifically proven to promote healthy coral growth. In addition, some species show a “staggering” 21% increase in horizontal growth rates compared to control levels.

Stream2Sea’s Coral Care sunscreen is formulated with natural, marine-safe ingredients to support coral health, but even the experts were surprised at how effective it is. “If we hadn’t done the tests ourselves, I simply wouldn’t have believed we could turn a negative into a positive,” said Professor Michael Sweet, head of the Nature-based Solutions Research Centre at the University of Derby and a leading international coral researcher.

“When we first saw an 8% increase in the growth of some corals at the mid-point stage of testing after being treated with Coral Care, we knew we were on to something huge,” Sweet said. “The result was a staggering 21% increase in horizontal growth rates compared to control levels when nothing had been added into the water.”

For years, the conversation around sunscreen and marine life has focused on minimizing damage, notes Autumn Blum, the CEO at Stream2Sea, who formulated Coral Care. “Many sunscreens, even those with a label stating "reef-safe," still contain chemicals that can disrupt coral ecosystems, and our oceans already are under unprecedented stress from climate change and pollution,” she said. “At Stream2Sea, we believe that products should be environmentally safe and contribute positively. With Coral Care, we have redefined what it means to be eco-conscious in the sunscreen industry.”

Reef Nourishment in Every Drop

Coral Care includes nourishing trace minerals and antioxidants that strengthen coral resilience. These help reefs recover from environmental stressors like rising sea temperatures and pollution. This world-first innovation places Stream2Sea at the forefront of marine conservation efforts.

Coral Care is already a multi-award-winning product, bagging Bronze in the coveted ‘Innovation’ category at this year’s Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity and securing a further Bronze and Silver at the London International Awards earlier this month.

Setting a New Standard in Reef-Safe Sunscreen

Stream2Sea's commitment to environmental protection has been the company's core mission since Blum founded it in 2015. Coral Care is the latest in a line of eco-friendly products developed by Stream2Sea to prioritize marine health. These include a complete line of mineral sunscreens and body care products formulated without petrochemicals that damage coral DNA.

Every aspect of their products, including its use of ocean-bound plastic and post-consumer recycled materials in the packaging, reflects the dedication of Stream2Sea and the University of Derby to a sustainable future where coral reefs can thrive.

Availability

Coral Care will be available for preorder starting in mid-November for diving, travel, and action water sports professionals.

Please visit booth 5093 during the DEMA Show to meet the Stream2Sea team and CEO and founder Autumn Blum.
