A Gesture of Love Sparks a Beacon of Hope for Those in the War-Torn Democratic Republic of Congo This Summer Alongside the Cornerstone Development Africa DR Congo

By: Get News
Through partnerships with organizations such as Cornerstone Development Africa DR Congo, A Gesture of Love recently offered a caring hand for families in the DRC and hosted the first university cleanup with UNIKIN

A Gesture of Love, the Houston-based non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of children, women, and men, is celebrating a summer of giving back in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

This war-torn country has seen more than 6 million deaths since 1996. Nearly 75% of people living in the DRC live on less than $2.15 per day. 42% of children under age five are stunted, meaning that a child in the DRC born today can only achieve approximately 35% of their potential.

Over this summer, A Gesture of Love strategically partnered with organizations such as Cornerstone Development Africa DR Congo and its sub organizations, including African Youth Leadership Forum (AYLF) and High School Leadership Development (HLD). A Gesture of Love helped organize and execute the first ever university cleanup at UNIKIN in Kinshasa and served 125 war-displaced families in refugee camps in Goma. In May, there was a bombing at one of the refugee camps in Goma that killed five people including children.

A Gesture of Love also participated in two conferences that encouraged youth to get involved in their communities and in their country while teaching them to remain resilient in such difficult times.

“This experience was life changing. It’s been an honor to be able to serve my native country in such a way and put smiles on the faces of those being affected with the country’s political troubles in the DRCongo” I am forever grateful for the partnership with Cornerstone Development Africa and the entire CDA DRCongo team for working with us. Thank you Tim and Cathy Kreutter- and the DRCongo coordinator Emmanuel Baraka for working with us,” said Gloria Walker at A Gesture of Love.

A Gesture of Love focuses on providing clean water, household necessities, educational services, and school supplies in areas of need. Learn more now by visiting https://www.agestureoflove.com/.
