Beverly Hills Dentist Addresses Four Myths About Porcelain Veneers

Beverly Hills, California, United States - 08-03-2022 (PR Distribution™) -

Beverly Hills cosmetic dentist Kevin Sands, DDS, discusses four common misconceptions surrounding porcelain veneers, which are custom-crafted restorations that can correct a number of aesthetic dental problems.

Beverly Hills, CA – As a leading cosmetic dentist in Beverly Hills, Kevin Sands, DDS is aware of the profound effects porcelain veneers can have on the smile. When these versatile restorations are crafted with durable ceramics and placed by an experienced provider, they can improve both the appearance of the smile and the function of the bite, Dr. Sands states. “By utilizing innovative technology and adhering to the latest techniques, my team and I are able to use veneers to correct countless dental imperfections,” he continues, emphasizing that veneers can conceal chips, cracks, misalignment, discoloration, and numerous other cosmetic concerns.

As with any dental solution, Dr. Sands notes, patients frequently have a lot of questions about porcelain veneers. These inquiries are often centered around the way veneers feel, the way they look, the treatment associated with their placement, and the kind of aesthetic issues they can address. In addition, he says, because the veneers process can be extremely complex, certain myths exist about both the procedure and veneers themselves. “It is important to feel comfortable interviewing your dentist about veneers,” Dr. Sands states, “as they should be able to debunk any misconceptions.” Meanwhile, he encourages anyone interested in the cosmetic treatment to read his detailed responses to the following common myths about dental veneers:

  1. Veneers are only for front teeth.
Many patients choose to only have veneers applied to their front teeth; however, Dr. Sands urges patients to understand that veneers are not limited to the front teeth. In fact, they can be an excellent option for virtually any tooth, provided that the tooth is healthy and supported by adequate jawbone structure. The precise number of veneers, as well as the ideal locations for placement, can be determined after a thorough evaluation of the patient’s oral health and cosmetic goals.
  2. Veneers break easily.
While veneers are designed to appear thin and delicate, those made of high-quality materials should be anything but fragile. Well-crafted veneers can last for years on end when they are properly maintained and regularly examined. Although breaking, chipping, or other damage is possible, such issues are generally very rare. Ultimately, Dr. Sands says, the durability of these restorations depends on the type of veneers being utilized (e.g., porcelain, LUMINEERS®, composite resin, etc.), as different kinds of ceramics are sturdier than others.
  3. Veneers are painful.
Dr. Sands explains that patients may notice slight discomfort while the teeth are being prepared, particularly if a small amount of enamel needs to be removed to accommodate the veneer. Otherwise, patients are unlikely to experience any significant pain over the course of treatment. In addition, the veneers themselves are not considered uncomfortable, with the majority of patients adapting to their feel within two to three weeks.
  4. They do not look natural.
While some patients worry that their veneers will be outwardly noticeable, Dr. Sands assures them that veneers crafted at his practice are known for their natural appearance. He creates every set of veneers with Planmeca ProMax® 3D imaging technology, an advanced system that allows him to closely examine the specifics of the mouth and craft a highly customized treatment plan. He also takes great care in bonding the veneers to the tooth and matching them to their unique shade. “Veneers require a combination of artistry and precise technical skill,” he states. “Only dentists who perfect this balance can produce results that both retain and enhance the natural beauty of the smile.”

Moreover, because the choice to obtain porcelain veneers can be overwhelming, Dr. Sands encourages patients to only entrust their treatment to a professional with whom they feel comfortable communicating. He considers it a privilege to be able to educate his patients about porcelain veneers, and invites any patient who is interested in the procedure to schedule a consultation.
