Fundraising for NOLA Sculpture “Venus Dreaming” Takes Off The work of the late Thomas “Randy Morrison to be placed in Coliseum Square Park in Memoriam

New Orleans, Louisiana, United States - 03-03-2023 (PR Distribution™) -

Non-profit organization Thomas R. Morrison Public Art Projects Inc., a 501C, today announced the success of the first round of crowdsource funding for “Venus Dreaming,” the last sculpture of Thomas “Randy” Morrison who passed in January 2022. Morrison was arguably one of the most important Mardi Gras float designers of all time, and one of the greatest American neoclassic sculptors of the early 21st century. The launch of this funding was led by Alex Szablya, Charley and Bob Zeches, and 77 other generous donors.

When you see Rodin’s work or Bernini or Michelangelo, you feel your humanity at a deeper level than your ordinary daily life, and that is a legacy which is worth living and dying for. So I have dedicated my life to that, and I hope that one day I’ll make something that’s worthy of that tradition. One piece that makes people light up inside and makes them feel like they’re not alone, makes them feel like their experience in life is part of a family,” Thomas R. Morrison, 2018.

“We sailed past our initial goal of $5,000 and are heading towards our next big goal: $10,000. I am so amazed and delighted by the tremendous support we've already received! Thanks very much to everyone who has already donated,” says Dave Seropian, Treasurer, Thomas R. Morrison Public Art Projects Inc., February 2023.

The goal of this project is to raise $29,500 to fund the life-size figurative sculpture “Venus Dreaming” by late artist Thomas R. Morrison to be cast in bronze and permanently installed in Coliseum Square Park, near the artist’s former home.
