Arrival (NASDAQ: ARVL) has announced first production of its verification vehicle at its Bicester microfactory in the United Kingdom.
The company says that it produced the first van using in-house technologies, which included composite materials, autonomous mobile robots, in-house components and a software defined factory. Arrival says that the milestone is a big stepping stone towards at-scale production and delivering vehicles to its customers.
Arrival says that its zero-emission Van is purposefully designed to be an environmentally sustainable and economically efficient commercial electric vehicle, compared to traditional vans. The vehicle is being made from the company’s unique lightweight composite materials, which are designed to be recyclable, durable and lower in cost.
Denis Sverdlov, Founder and CEO at Arrival said: “Today is an important day for Arrival. This is the first time a vehicle has ever been built in our Microfactory, using a new method that does not use a traditional assembly line. Although we have not yet achieved serial production, we are focused on making it happen. We will continue to produce vehicles in our Microfactory in order to master at-scale production.”
Arrival is aiming to prove up a new and efficient method to design and produce electric vehicles using rapidly-scalable, localized microfactories. The company says that this method will facilitate local cities and governments in achieving their sustainability goals while also super-charging their communities.
