We're bracing for light snow and some of the coldest air we've had in two years, prompting a WRAL Weather Alert Day for Tuesday and Wednesday.



Light snow incoming, coldest temps in over 2 years prompt WRAL Weather Alert Days

<p>Happy Monday. I'm meteorologist Chris Michaels here in the WRAL Severe Weather Center. Tuesday and Wednesday are both WRAL weather alert days due to bitter cold and some light snow potential as well. Let's talk about that bitter cold starting with Tuesday morning. This is when we have a cold weather advisory in effect, and you can see these wind chills ranging between 6 and 12 degrees as the coldest air that we've felt so far. Season. A lot of folks asking about the snow, and if you've been following along with our weekend updates, you do know that the trend is going down for the area. We were never expecting it tomorrow afternoon, so that's going to be dry with increasing clouds. Now let's head toward tomorrow evening after 7 or 8, and you see that there will be some flurries, some snow showers, especially targeting the eastern half of the area, and you blink and it's pretty much out of here. I'd say by 1 or 2 a.m. you're still seeing snow out toward the coast, but here at home, really not looking at much of anything. So, in terms of snow totals, what's actually on the ground, for a lot of us, it's anywhere from really nothing to maybe half an inch. Keep in mind that still can make things pretty slick with how cold things are. If you're looking for an inch or more, you really gotta go well east of I-95 toward areas like New Bern and Wilmington. Crazy thing about this is that this storm is delivering a whole lot more as you go toward Houston and New Orleans. They're looking at several inches of snow. Wilmington could see as much as 2 inches. We're going about 1 to 2 for the coast, but, uh, here this far inland, not looking at much of anything. In terms of today, it's a cold one. Cold and breezy, plenty of sunshine, high temperatures. They'll be in the low to mid-30s, but tomorrow and Wednesday are those WRAL weather alert days. Now, beyond that, Thursday morning we'll be in the teens, then by the afternoon, mid top or 30s. Right now, chances are limited for a coastal storm come Thursday evening into Friday. We'll keep tabs on that, but the weekend looking up, high temperatures by Sunday, feeling good in the low to mid-50s.</p>
