An 8-year-old girl was seriously injured when a dog attacked her outside her Harnett County home Thursday evening. A neighbor who tried to help was also hurt.

NEIGHBORS SAY THE MAN ARRESTED TONIGHT ACTUALLY OWNED THE DOG. THE DEPUTIES HAVEN'T SAID WHAT HE'S CHARGED WITH THE ATTACK HAPPENED ON BISON LANE IN LILLINGTON. AN 8 YEAR-OLD GIRL WAS INJURED. SHE'S IN THE HOSPITAL NEIGHBOR WAS ALSO INJURED IN THE ATTACK, TRYING TO SAVE THE GIRL. HE'S RECOVERING FROM HIS INJURIES. WE SAW HARNETT COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPUTIES AND STATE TROOPERS RUSHING UP THIS ROAD HERE IN PULLING INTO THAT NEIGHBOR'S DRIVEWAY. THEY GOT OUT AND KNOCKED ON THE DOOR AND THEY WAITED FOR 2 MEN THAT LIVED HERE TO ARRIVE AT THE HOME BEFORE. SPEAKING WITH HIM FOR QUITE A WHILE. AND THEN ACTUALLY ARRESTING ONE OF THOSE MEN AGAIN, NEIGHBORS THAT WE SPOKE TO HERE SAY THAT THAT THAN MEN THAT LIVE THERE, THEY OWNED THE DOG THAT WAS INVOLVED IN AN ATTACK THAT HAPPENED HERE YESTERDAY. THAT WAS AN 8 YEAR-OLD GIRL PAPER DOBBIN. SHE WAS ATTACKED BY THAT DOG. ACCORDING TO THE HARNETT COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE. WE DON'T KNOW IF THAT WERE ARREST WAS IN CONNECTION TO THAT DOG ATTACK. BUT AGAIN, NEIGHBORS DO TELL US THAT THAT'S WHERE THE DOG CAME FROM. NOW ABOUT THAT ATTACK SPECIFICALLY AGAIN, IT HAPPENED YESTERDAY HERE IN THIS NEIGHBORHOOD ON BISON LANE, WHICH IS JUST RIGHT HERE ACROSS FROM BLAKELY COURT HERE. APPARENTLY ACCORDING TO THE HARNETT COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE, THERE WAS A GROUP OF KIDS PLAYING HERE ON THIS STREET. THAT'S WHEN THE DOG WALKED UP AND SEEMED TO BE, YOU KNOW, NOT AGGRESSIVE BEFORE IT JUST RANDOMLY ATTACKED THAT 8 YEAR-OLD GIRL. THANKFULLY A NEIGHBOR. WE SPOKE TO HIM TODAY SAW THAT ATTACK AND THAT'S WHEN HE JUMPED IN AND PRIDE. THE DOG OFF OF THAT GIRL ACTUALLY HAVE A QUOTE HERE FROM WHEN WE SPOKE TO. I SPOKE TO HIM. HE SAID NO ONE WOULD HAVE STEPPED IN. THE DOG WOULD HAVE CONTINUED TO ATTACK. IRAN TOLD HE WOULD HAVE KILLED HER. SO THAT JUST GIVES YOU A SCOPE OF HOW BAD THAT ATTACK WAS. THANKFULLY, WHEN HE STEPPED IN, THEY WERE ABLE TO GRAB THE GIRL, GET HER TO SAFETY AND SHE IS NOW AT UNC HOSPITAL WHERE SHE IS RECOVERING. I SPOKE TO HER MOTHER TONIGHT WHO SAID SHE IS IN STABLE CONDITION. THE GIRLS ACTUALLY SMILING. SHE TOLD ME HER DAUGHTER IS TOUGH, MET. SHE'S WORKING THROUGH THIS RIGHT NOW. BUT OF COURSE, A LOT OF NEIGHBORS HERE. PARENTS CONCERNED ABOUT THE SITUATION AND WHAT HAPPENED. THEY TOLD ME THAT THIS WAS NOT THE FIRST TIME THAT THAT DOG HAD GOTTEN OUT AND THEY HAD WARNED OF A NEIGHBOR BEFORE THEY'RE JUST GLAD. According to the Durham Police Department, officers are looking for 63-year-old Sherry Sheetz. Sheetz is described as a white woman, 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighing about 120 pounds. The police department said Sheetz has shoulder-length white hair and blue eyes.
