Pop-up storms have filled in across the area and a severe thunderstorm watch is in effect through midnight. The heat index reached 111 degrees earlier on Wednesday as a dangerous heat wave continued.

I'm meteorologist Campbell storms are firing up. We've had several severe thunderstorm warnings, even downbursts within these storms producing damaging wind gusts. Another concern for us will be the heavy rain and flooding. We'll have live coverage throughout the afternoon and evening on WEL News and WRL News. So be sure to tune in for live updates. to let you know about a new flood advisory. This includes Raleigh and parts of Wake County as well as Clayton and Johnston County until 6:15. Up to 2 inches of rain has already fallen, but potentially more on the way as the scattered storms moved through a severe thunderstorm watch has been issued. This goes until midnight tonight, and today is not our only chance for. Severe weather tomorrow we'll have a chance for storms level one threat for severe weather and Friday, another level 1 threat for severe storms. This evening's about a 50% chance, about 50/50 coverage of storms versus dry areas on the radar. We will see this activity back off though after midnight.
