Highs Wednesday could get back up to 100 around the Triangle. An extreme heat warning will remain in effect overnight through 8 p.m. on Wednesday, though some areas could see a level 2 threat for scattered storms in the afternoon and evening.

Hello everyone. I'm meteorologist Mike Mays in the WRO Severe Weather Center with our forecast update for this Tuesday night. We've got a lot going on. It's heat and it's thunderstorms. Some could be severe. Tomorrow morning we could have a record warm low. Later in the afternoon we could tie our old record high. Today we had a new record high of 100. The old one was 99. Now we're forecasting 80 in the morning here in Raleigh. Our record warm low. 77 sat back in 2010. So if we get to 80, we easily break that. And then later on. The afternoon for Wednesday, we're forecasting 100. The record is 100, so at least we'll tie the record high. So let's move along and talk about what else is going on. Our weather alert day continues again tomorrow. There's a level 2 threat for severe weather with damaging winds and hail. The timing right now looks like 2 o'clock. Thunderstorms begin to erupt, lasting through about 10 o'clock, and even at 11 o'clock at midnight tomorrow, there still could be some showers and storms, and there's still extreme heat possible for the day tomorrow with the heat and 112 or above for some locations. So there is a level 2 threat for a lot of the area. Elizabeth will update this tomorrow morning to see if it expands. damaging winds, hail, lightning, heavy rain. The storms could be particularly strong because of the heat that will help energize them, and there could be downburst winds. And then for the day on Thursday, as of right now, we're under level 1 threat for severe weather. We're going about a 50/50 chance for storms for the day Wednesday, about 30% chance right now for Thursday, but could go up. It's great to see the storms. We're forecasting by lunchtime tomorrow, about 94, 95. By 3 o'clock, about 100, and then later in the afternoon and evening showers and storms form. Now our forecast high tomorrow of 100 dictated by the timing of the storms developing and where they develop. If we have a storm developing over RDU around lunchtime, 1 or 2 o'clock, we probably won't get to 100 degrees. We'll watch hour by hour to see how this all forms. And then for thunderstorms, About a 50% chance, 56789, 10 o'clock tomorrow, uh, starting perhaps as early as 1 or 2 o'clock. We'll keep an eye on the radar to see how they all form. And just as a reminder, we still have that extreme heat warning through 8 o'clock on Wednesday. The heat index here in the triangle up to 112 could be higher in some of our southern locations like Clinton and then for Southern Pines and also Rayford, uh, there is a heat advisory in effect. So a lot of information to swallow. Warm and muggy overnight, 80 in Raleigh, 80 in Fayetteville, 79 in Goldsboro, and then we'll watch for severe storms tomorrow afternoon with upper 90s to about 100 for the highs. The heat should back off by the time we get to Thursday, Friday, and the weekend, it's more in the way of mid and upper 90s, probably won't see triple digit heat. That's our forecast update.
