Cold rain, icy conditions possible: WRAL Weather Alert Days for Tuesday and Wednesday

Happy Tuesday. I'm meteorologist Chris Michaels in the WRAL Severe Weather Center. It is a WRAL weather alert day, especially as we see the chance for some light icing north of I-85, but even that potential is pretty limited, and now is mainly confined to the, uh, evening and nighttime hours. Really, as you head toward Mecklenburg County, Virginia, that's where you stand the. chance of anything uh significant in terms of impact. Anywhere right along the Virginia border could see again a light glaze on some elevated surfaces. Moisture throughout the morning is gonna be pretty limited, uh, not so much the case in Virginia, but as we go toward midday afternoon, we'll gradually start to see uh rain widespread and spreading over the region. There's 7 p.m. it looks like the evening commute could be a little messy for us, the bulk of any kind of freezing rain, well, north and west of I-85, and that continues into tomorrow morning. Now, tomorrow morning's commute could be messy, mainly in the form of just some rain, and then as we go throughout the day, Wednesday, we gradually see a decrease in the amount of shower activity. By Thursday morning, you're mainly just looking at a few stray showers, but quite a bit of rain over the course of the next 3 days, anywhere from about 3/4 of an inch to 1 and 3/4, and then by Thursday afternoon, we'll see another chance of storms. Today and Wednesday, very cold, but Thursday, we start to warm things up. We'll start The 40s, we'll see highs in the 60s, and that comes in ahead of our next cold front. So we'll warm up Thursday, then we'll see some rain, potentially some thunderstorms during the afternoon, will turn colder, breezier, and drier for Valentine's Day. In fact, out of the next 5 to 6 days, Valentine's Day is probably going to be the best one you've got. Start out with temperatures in the 30s, highs in the 50s, rain chances rising Saturday, temperatures and rain and storm chances rising again Sunday, and then temperatures falling off big time. We'll see highs in the upper 40s heading into next Monday.
