On Tuesday afternoon, an already tense situation at UNC-Chapel Hill escalated after the American flag was lowered and replaced with a Palestinian flag on the main quad. Dozens of police officers entered the main quad and clashed with protesters while UNC Interim Chancellor Lee Roberts tried to reassure the campus community.

INTERIM CHANCE EARLY ROBERTS WALKED DOWN THE STEPS LEADING POLICE TO THOSE PROTESTERS TO BREAK >> POLICE MOVED IN TO UNC TOOK PLACE FOR THE SECOND TIME IN THE DAY AT. PROTESTERS TORE DOWN THE BARRICADES TO REACH THE FLAG POLE AND THE SIDE OF THE FIGHT. THEY RAISED A PALESTINIAN FLAG IN PLACE OF THE STARS AND STRIPES. POLICE FROM ACROSS THE UNC SYSTEM DESCENDED ON THIS SAME A SPACE FOR THE FIRST TIME BEFORE DAWN ON DAY 5. >> 100 POLICE OFFICERS MARCHING ONTO A CAMPUS TO TO DISRUPT STUDENTS WHILE THEY'RE SLEEPING. AND WE ARE STILL NOT SCARED. >> OFFICERS OVERTURNED AND AIR MATTRESS FORTRESS BUILT AROUND THE CENTER OF THE ENCAMPMENT BLOCK. SOME PROTESTERS TRIED TO STOP POLICE VEHICLES EVEN LAYING DOWN ON THE SIDEWALK IN FRONT OF THEM. UNC SAYS ABOUT 30 PEOPLE WERE DETAINED IN THE MOVEMENT. AT LEAST 6 WERE ARRESTED AND CHARGED WITH RESISTING A PUBLIC OFFICER. SEVERAL FACE OTHER CHARGES, INCLUDING TRESPASSING AND ASSAULT DOZENS OF SUPPORTERS SURROUNDED THOSE ARRESTED PROTESTERS AND TRIED TO BLOCK OUR CAMERAS AS THEY WERE RELEASED FROM THE ORANGE COUNTY DETENTION CENTER THERE REALLY RATTLED BECAUSE IS LIKE A TRAUMATIC THING TO EXPERIENCE, BUT WE'RE NOT PHASE. WE'RE NOT PHASE. WE WILL CONTINUE TO PUSH INTO A FIGHT AND WE WILL NOT BACK DOWN >> THAT'S THE MESSAGE THEY BROUGHT BACK TO CAMPUS FOR A PROTEST ON THE STEPS OF THE UNIVERSITY'S ADMINISTRATION BUILDING BEHIND THE CROWD OF HUNDREDS SUPPORTING THE PALESTINIAN MOVEMENT. >> A HANDFUL OF JEWISH FRATERNITY MEMBERS HELD IN ISRAELI FLAG IN QUIET COUNTER-PROTEST. >> WALL, NOT A LARGE JEWISH COMMUNITY.
