OFFICIALS HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO SHARE AN EXACT NUMBER MORE THAN 600,000 PEOPLE ACROSS OUR STATE ARE WITHOUT POWER. MORE THAN 100,000 OF THOSE OUTAGES ARE IN COUNTY ALONE. DUKE ENERGY HAS SAID THAT RIGHT NOW THERE IS NO ESTIMATION FOR WHEN THE POWER COULD BE TURNED BACK ON AS CREWS BATTLE DAMAGE LEFT BEHIND. AND THERE IS NO CELL PHONE SERVICE IN MUCH OF WESTERN NORTH CAROLINA CELL PHONE PROVIDERS SAY IT WILL BE SEVERAL DAYS UNTIL SERVICE CAN BE RESTORED. COMING UP IN ABOUT 4 MINUTES, WE'LL HEAR FROM GOVERNOR ROY COOPER ABOUT HOW PEOPLE CAN GET IN CONTACT WITH LOVED ONES AND THE WORK BEING DONE TO GET SUPPLIES AND HELP TO THE DEVASTATED COMMUNITIES. OFFICIALS IN COUNTY HELD A MEDIA BRIEFING JUST ABOUT 2 HOURS AGO CALLING THE STORM A NATURAL DISASTER OF BIBLICAL PROPORTION. BUT WITH THIS HISTORIC STORM LEFT BEHIND ALL SAYING IT'S HARD TO SEE SO MANY HISTORIC BUILDINGS IN RUINS. AND IN TIMES OF DESPERATION, SOME PEOPLE HAVE RESORTED TO LOOTING STORES IMPACTED BY THE STORM. BUT THE STOREFRONT IN THE HISTORIC DISTRICT, WRAL WAS THERE AS THE MOMENT PLAYED OUT WITHOUT LAW ENFORCEMENT.
