North Carolina Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson is known for past statements on women, Jews, gay people and others that have drawn criticism. Opportunities for the media to offer him a chance to publicly respond to that criticism are rare.

'You should be ashamed,' Robinson tells reporters as he declines to answer questions

Robinson had just finished hosting an awards ceremony to present a medal to law enforcement wro capital bureau chief, Laura Leslie joins us now, who was one of the poor reporters trying to get him on the record. Laura Jeff earlier this week, we told you about some comments that Lieutenant Governor Robinson made, that were some people called divisive and hateful. Um Well, you know, today Democrats held a call, calling on other republicans to repudiate those comments. Lieutenant Governor Robinson made it clear to us today that he is not interested in talking about them. Lieutenant Governor Mark Robinson made the comments at a church in Bladen County, June 30th. Get mad at me. If you want to, some folks need killing, it's time for somebody to say it. Robinson's campaign spokesman said he was talking about the Nazis in World War. I I after an award ceremony Robinson hosted today, we tried to ask Lieutenant Governor himself what he meant. Can you please answer some questions if you had questions about what happened in there today? He would answer them this day. Is about, it's not about you want to come out here and you want to this lady's award by coming out here asking me that silly question. That's what you got out of this. There's your answer shame. That's what it is pure shape. And you should be ashamed earlier today, state Democrats on a press call accused Robinson and some other Republicans of violent rhetoric and they called on Republican leaders to denounce his comments. We did ask that today of House Speaker Tim Moore, he said he wasn't aware of what Robinson had said but said he stands by Robinson as the Republican candidate for governor in November, Laura Leslie WRL News live in Raleigh.
