Potential Tropical Cyclone 4 formed Friday in the Atlantic, and North Carolina is in the path.



Hurricane season 2024: Potential Tropical Cyclone 4 forms, could impact NC next week

All right, here's the latest in the tropics where we have a lot to talk about here that has kind of just come out from the hurricane center. This is now what we call potential tropical cyclone four. And I know that's a big term that, you know, sometimes it gets people a little bit off guard. It's confusing sometimes what that's saying is this system is potentially going to form a tropical storm, a hurricane or some sort of step up from where it is right now as we go through the next couple of days. And so this is the latest advisory, it's currently pushing over Cuba over eastern Cuba and we now have a forecast track from the hurricane center. Keep in mind we still do not have a well-defined circulation to this system. I would still expect shifts in this track back and forth intensities to go up or down. And so we can kind of get this fully fine tuned. But what this is saying is we're likely to see at least some sort of storm coming into the Florida West coast area around Tampa Sarasota, that kind of direction crossing central Florida, going back out into the Atlantic and then potentially affecting our coast as we get into Tuesday and Wednesday of this upcoming week. So this is going to be here before we know it. They do have it as a tropical storm right now. There's still the potential it could become a hurricane. There's the potential, it could be a little bit weaker. That's something we're going to be watching very closely here as we continue to head into the weekend.
