BUT SPOKESPERSON SAID OFFICER ROGER SMITH WAS WORKING IN THE EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT LOBBY AND A STRUGGLE ENSUED. WE DON'T HAVE DETAILS ON WHAT LED UP TO THE SHOOTING. EXACTLY. BUT THEY SAID SMITH LATER DIED FROM HIS INJURIES. GARNER. POLICE DO HAVE A PERSON IN CUSTODY AT THIS TIME RIGHT NOW THERE IS NO THREAT TO THE PUBLIC. NOW WE KNOW THE OFFICERS WERE CALLED TO THE SCENE AROUND 9 THIS MORNING. THERE WAS A VERY HEAVY POLICE PRESENCE THERE. THE STATE BUREAU OF INVESTIGATION IS NOW ON SCENE AS WELL INVESTIGATING IT.
