A WRAL Weather Alert Day has been issued for Friday due to pockets of heavy rain and flash flood threats across the area.

I'm meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner. We continue to have a chance for some rain bands, producing heavy rain and potential flooding for the rest of the day. Today. It is likely to pick up through the afternoon hours as we see a surge of moisture coming in off the Atlantic. So today is a WRL weather alert day. We do have a flood watch that's in effect. We could easily see an inch and a half to three inches of rain. As a matter of fact, for parts of the morning in some areas, we've easily seen 2 to 3, not everywhere. This is all going to come in waves and in different cells and not everybody will see the exact same amount of rain. It is a level two risk for flooding for this afternoon and into this evening. Take a look at future cast and you can see how we have this line of rain coming through thunderstorms, lots and lots of lightning with these cells and these bands that are popping up around our area. Today, we're going to see a morphing moving as we get into the afternoon and evening and gradually as we get closer to midnight, we should see it tapering off. So around town today, temperatures are cooler with all the clouds and the rain that we're seeing, looking at high temperatures in the low to mid eighties. It's a nice break from the heat, but it is a messy day out there. 73 is our dew point. So that's really high, but our temperatures are not as high today. The dew point may drop a little bit for early next week, but the temperatures are going to continue to climb after a break from the big heat. Today. It'll feel like 99 on Saturday and 103 on Sunday. Actual highs will be in the low to mid nineties. But keep that in mind as you're making your weekend plans, just note that we will be back to some of that high heat. Speaking of high heat, wh it really skyrockets. Tuesday at 101. It's possible that we would have a heat advisory, potentially, maybe Monday and Tuesday. We get into a little better chance of some storms again, mid to late next week.
