WRAL Weather Alert Day: Several counties under a flood advisory, rain continues into tonight

I'm WAL meteorologist Kat Campbell. Earlier flooding in Sanford and Lee County led to some pretty significant issues with water rescues being reported. That's one of the bull's eyes for the highest rainfall totals today, as well as closer to the Samson County, Wayne and Johnston County border. Let's talk about the rainfall in Lee County, though, some pretty remarkable. Totals widespread 3 to 5 inch rainfall totals across the county. It's all due to this low pressure system that's moving away from us tonight into early tomorrow. As it moves away, it'll take the rain with it. The rain continues to taper off, and by the time you wake up, it'll be dry Friday morning, but a lot of clouds out there to start the day. Friday afternoon, the clouds gradually clear. It ends up being sunny, pretty hot and humid on Friday, and mainly dry for any outdoor plans you have Friday. That could change though Friday evening after the sun sets, mainly from about 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. will have the potential for some of the showers and storms moving out of the mountains to hold together. The better chance for storms though is going to come over the weekend, and that's because We've got this front to our west that's going to be approaching, and that's our next big weather maker. It's also going to be feeling more like June this weekend. It is hot. High temperatures will be in the upper 80s to lower 90s. Saturday is a WRAL weather alert day with a level 2 out of 5 storm threat. We'll have much more on that with new models tonight at 10 on Fox 50 and 11 on WRAL.
