A WRAL Weather Alert Day has been issued for Friday due to pockets of heavy rain and flash flood threats across the area.

Good morning. I'm meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner. We are watching heavy rain and bands across our area this morning though. It's likely to cause some problems. At least by the afternoon, if not before. It is a WRL weather alert day. We have a flood watch that's in effect all day, an inch and a half to three inches of rain. As a matter of fact, we've already seen a heavy band of rain set up very early this morning and our western county is producing as much as three inches of rain and as we get through the day, we'll see more of these rain bands. So we do have a level two risk for flooding for today. Uh, it's not a risk for severe storms, but that risk for flooding. The best thing you can do when you're dealing with flooding is just to watch out for the roads. If there is water rushing across the road, you need to turn around and head back the way you came. We take a look at futurecast and we'll continue to see bands of rain. You're not going to see an all day rain. It's going to come through in bands it'll be very heavy for a little while. With a lot of lightning, then you're going to get a break for a while. That's the way things will go. But this continues all day long. You can see what's happening there at lunchtime. We have some heavy rain in pockets at two o'clock. It may start to shift to the east and then it shows another redeveloping band in our western counties again in the same place where we've already seen as much as 2 to 3 inches already. So, and that flooding threat is real out there for us. We've had some heavy rain in places. Franklinton boy saw a really big downpour this morning. 77 is the temperatures are heading out the door this morning and it stays on the mild side today. 83 in Raleigh, 82 in Durham and 85 in Fayetteville. It's a very tropical feel out there though, even though the temperatures won't climb as much because of the rain and the clouds. It's a very tropical feeling air mass. So two points at 72 we may see that drop somewhat on Monday and Tuesday, but we're looking at the heat increasing. We're not looking at any heat problems today, of course, but by tomorrow it'll feel like 99 with the heat index and by Sunday feeling like 103. So keep that in mind as you're making any weekend plans, our chance for rain early Saturday morning. And then just an isolated chance on Sunday afternoon, it's dry and hot Monday and Tuesday and then into a slightly better chance for storms by the middle to the end of next week.
