Dangerous heat across the Triangle persists on Monday as feels-like temperatures will be close to 100. There is also a Level 1 risk for severe storms in parts of Wayne, Sampson and Cumberland counties.

<p>Good afternoon. I'm meteorologist, Amy Wilmouth in the WRL severe weather center. The big heat continues for the rest of the week and this will continue through the weekend as well. 95 the forecast high today, the heat index up to around 100 or so. 96 Tuesday, the heat index up to 97. We have a little drop in the humidity tomorrow so it shouldn't feel as bad. It's all. Thanks to a cold front that's swinging through right now. 99 for the high Wednesday, the heat index up to 105 the heat index gets up to about 103 Thursday and 100 Friday. So, again, this big heat really not going anywhere anytime soon. We do have a cold front moving through, but it's not going to change our temperatures. It's just going to drop the humidity a little bit as we head into Tuesday, we have had some showers in our southern counties. The best chance for rain today will be south and east of the triangle. A couple of those showers and storms possible this afternoon and that will continue into the evening commute. But again, the best chance will be in our eastern and southern communities later on today, for the potential for some scattered showers and storms from the Triangle points to the north and west. Many of you are going to stay dry. We do have the potential for some severe storms in our eastern counties and southern counties. We'll keep a close eye on the radar but the biggest threat with any storms today would be some damaging winds and some brief heavy downpours. We have a decent chance for some rain today, south and east of the triangle and then rain chances drop for a couple of days. But another cold front arrives Thursday and that brings a 60% chance for scattered showers and thunderstorms. So if you don't get any rain today, hopefully you'll get some on Thursday with the next cold front that swings through, but that cold front isn't going to impact temperatures either. It's still going to stay hot mid nineties for today and Tuesday, upper nineties to near 100 on Wednesday, we'll be in the low to mid nineties as we head into Thursday and that will continue through the weekend. Again, we have a chance for some storms today, south and east of the Triangle, another round of scattered storms for one Thursday and then perhaps some storms as we wrap up the weekend on Sunday.</p>
