WRAL Weather Alert Day: Localized flooding, severe storms expected Thursday

Happy Thursday. I'm meteorologist, Chris Michaels with another old weather alert day in effect for the day today as we see the chance for localized flooding and there could even be a couple stronger thunderstorms out there. Keep in mind, all it would take is a gust of about 30 to 40 MPH to knock down trees, especially with how wet the ground is. And another thing to keep in mind is that water is strong. So if it does start piling up on the roads and it moves a little more quickly that you see at least the chance for some, uh, trouble spots out there, something we're going to keep an eye on as we head into the peak hours of the morning commute, we'll get to futurecast here in just a second. Flood watch is in effect through midnight. That's for the entire area. And what you see on the right hand side of the screen is what I was talking about that localized wind damage threat. That's at a level one out of five future eight o'clock this morning showing some pretty widespread and potentially heavy rain at times. It's something that we're going to see through about midday today. And then as we get closer to 4 p.m. it looks like most of our showers and storms in our eastern communities by 8 p.m. It's looking at about a 20 to 30% coverage of showers and storms overnight looks like it's quieter than as we head into Friday. Our front is still in close proximity to plus some more scattered activity mostly near to the south of I 40. That front is gonna shift south of the area heading into the weekend. The breeze comes in out of the, out of the north and northeast means that it's not going to be quite as tropical, still a little humid, but it's not going to be overbearing out there. So I'll give you the green light in terms of our weekend plans. I, I do think we trend driers with lower humidity settling in for Sunday. Sunday mornings mostly gonna start out in the sixties. So that's gonna feel very nice, especially after these past few weeks, afternoon highs this weekend, 87 to 89 and that's about where they're going to be heading into next week. But we see the flow returning out of the south. That's your humidity that brings in the chance for some hit or miss showers and storms Monday through Wednesday.
