Thursday is a WRAL Weather Alert Day with a Level 2 risk for severe weather. The Triangle is under a severe thunderstorm watch.

Good afternoon. I'm meteorologist, Amy Wilmot with an update on the severe weather threat. Today, we do have a w rial weather alert day in place a level two risk for severe storms for most of the area today. Also, we have the threat for some very heavy downpours, a flood watch in effect from the triangle and points to the north and east. We could have two inch per hour rainfall rates as we head through the afternoon and evening and that could lead to some flooding. Just something to keep in mind. Make sure you tune to WRL starting at 4 p.m. today for the latest on where we have the heavy rain and perhaps some severe storms as well. The threats for today, damaging wind gusts, certainly possible with these storms. So we might see some trees down. We might have some power outages. We also have the threat for heavy rain. I mentioned that we have the chance for flooding with that flood risk for the northern half of the area, including the triangle. We also have the threat for some hail within some of these storms as well. So let's talk about the timing a little bit. This afternoon. This evening, we're going to have scattered storms. These are going to be with us through the evening commute. We'll have the storm trucker out, keeping an eye on the roads and Mike and Kat will be the severe weather center, keeping an eye on the radar and let you know if we're getting any warnings by 7 p.m. It's really our eastern and southern counties that have the best chance for storms and then things start to settle down once the sun sets. But we'll have another round of showers and storms as we head into tomorrow. It's a really unsettled weather pattern for the next several days. Friday. We'll have scattered showers and storms in the afternoon and evening. Our high is 80 eight Saturday. We have a level one risk for severe storms for most of the area. We have a high of 87 Sunday. Some storms will be possible as well. Now making your weekend plans, it looks like it's afternoon and evening storms so maybe try to get your outdoor things done in the morning hours, but it remains unsettled into next week with storms possible. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday with highs in the upper eighties.
