WRAL Weather Alert Day: Washout on the way; flooding possible with 4 inches of rain 

Good morning. I'm meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner. Today is a WREL weather alert day. We're looking at heavy rain picking up, especially around lunchtime through the afternoon and evening and into the first part of the day tomorrow. We do have a flood watch that's in effect. Rain totals 2 to 4 inches during this time period in the next 24 to 36 hours, and we'll see it off and on this morning, and then it really picks up in intensity later this afternoon through tomorrow morning, but that's not the end of the rain. We'll continue to have. in our forecast on and off for much of the week. Here's a look at the flood watch again, 2 to 4 inches of rain for almost the entire viewing area. Mecklenburg County, Virginia not included, but still, um, I would be on the lookout for some, some flooding there as well, just some minor flooding anyway. Fu has showing pretty quiet conditions for us this morning, just a few isolated showers on and off, but once we hit lunchtime, it's widespread and heavy. There may be some thunderstorms associated with That it's really going to be pouring, and that continues well into tomorrow morning. This is at 100 p.m. and uh well into tomorrow we'll continue to see that heavy rain. So what to watch for this morning. Um, some patchy areas of fog during the commute, some spray out there on the roads in the areas where we're seeing those showers. Some of those could be briefly heavy, and of course they'll be on and off this morning, and then things really pick up the evening commute will be especially messy with heavy rain.
