Friday is a WRAL Weather Alert Day with rain likely and flash flooding possible. Rainfall totals will likely range from half-an-inch to two inches from west to east. A flood watch is in effect for central North Carolina.

<p>Happy Friday. I'm meteorologist Kat Campbell. In the wr a severe weather center, temperatures back off a bit on Friday. And rain chances go up. It's a break from the heat and a pretty good chance for rain a great day ahead for most of us. 82 on Friday and that chance for rain, about 80 to 90% Saturday and Sunday, we are back in the nineties, there will be some hit or miss summertime storms, but those are going to be of your typical kind of thunderstorms set up for us. We've got a front that's stuck in central North Carolina right now. There's quite a few showers and storms leading to some flooding closer to the coast. Those will gradually spread inland later this evening and tonight, but it's not going to be such a solid line by the time they get here. So there will be a chance for an evening shower or storm. That chance goes up overnight and into Friday morning, you may run into some rain for your morning commute. I expect to see at least some rain on the radar. So make sure you check in with meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner before you leave the house in the morning and the rain chances just go up from there. It's not an all day nonstop rain, but on and off showers and storms and any of those storms that set up should have some heavy beneficial rain in them for us, uh, before they eventually move out Friday night. As for how much rain we could see. I do want to let you know, I've noticed a trend on the models today for less rain in the sand hills. That may be the area that sees the lower rainfall totals from this system. Elsewhere, we're looking at generally 1 to 2 inches from the triangle East and the western part of our viewing area in that half an inch to an inch range. But again, the Sand Hills may see less than half an inch on the new models I've seen today. And if you look at the rainfall deficit over the past 30 days, we need 1 to 2 inches of rain in the triangle, two inches of rain in South Hill 2 to 4 inches for Southern Pines, Fayetteville in the Sand Hills area and Goldsboro, your deficit almost 3.5 inches of rain. The drought status was updated today. No huge updates here, but there is now extreme drought closer to the North Carolina Coast just to our south and the severe drought has expanded. So let's look ahead over the next seven days. Friday is certainly our best chance for rain and our lowest temperature forecast. Once we get to the weekend, the heat and humidity are back, that comes with your typical hit or miss summertime storms next week is trending drier and much hotter highs. Climb back into the upper nineties.</p>
