This Memorial Day weekend in North Carolina will be hot and humid with a chance for scattered afternoon storms each day.


Memorial Day weekend heats up with highs in the upper 80s and low 90s 

<p>I'm meteorologist, Kat Campbell in the wr a severe weather center, a hot holiday weekend is in the forecast ties will be in the upper eighties to lower nineties. It's feeling like summer and that means it's feeling humid for the weekend. We will have a chance for storms each day. Some days, that chance is better than others, but it's definitely not a washout. You'll actually see more dry hours every day than wet hours. The chance for storms. Saturday afternoon is about 40%. We've got a chance of storms between 2 p.m. and about nine pm on Saturday evening. So let's take a look at future cast. It's a dry start Saturday morning though, we can't rule out a little bit of patchy fog. Once we get to 23 o'clock, our first storms of the day could pop up. These are going to be very isolated and they really could pop up just about anywhere. Once we get to the evening, that's going to be our best chance as we get toward 567 o'clock. And then after that, once the sun sets, we lose our heating of the day, the energy in the atmosphere and those storms die down. Sunday, rain, chances are only 20%. So Sunday looks like a pretty good day to make some outdoor plans. Just that 20% chance of rain toward the coastal plain. 91 the highest. So it is a bit hotter on Sunday. If you're headed to the lake tomorrow, one of our area lakes just try to get out early in the day. So we get toward 34 o'clock, we'll have a few storms around. And if you're headed to the coast tomorrow, I think the best chance of a stray storm would be during the evening hours. Definitely not a washout low to mid eighties for our southern beaches. Closer to 80 degrees along the outer banks and some highs are back in the low to mid eighties. Sunday looks like a really nice beach day as well with only about a 20% chance of rain and thunderstorms. I did want to mention the rip current risk at the North Carolina Coast. We have seen this change for tomorrow. Saturday, there is a moderate risk of rip currents from Cape Hatteras to Topsail Beach. So please, if you're going to be swimming along those waters, review rip current safety with your family. If you see the yellow flags flying, that means there is a moderate risk of rip currents at whatever beach and you'll want to swim back, uh parallel to the shoreline, get out of the rip current and then come back to shore. So make sure you go over that with your families before they get in the water. This weekend. As we look ahead, once we get past Monday's storm, chances for Memorial Day, things are quiet for the rest of next week. Rain, chances start to taper off. We see drier air move in and that means a nice drop in humidity on the way next week, lows dip back into the fifties. Highs only in the seventies by Thursday and Friday making for some beautiful weather.</p>
