Heat advisory: One more day of intense heat before relief arrives, Level 1 risk for severe storms Wednesday

Happy Wednesday. I'm meteorologist Chris Michaels in the Wral severe weather center for the fourth day in a row. We've got a heat advisory. It means the heat index between 104 and 108 at its highest advisory goes from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. But there is a higher chance of storms. Keep watching for that here coming up in just a few seconds. But there you see the air temperature 97 the heat index about 10 degrees higher than that. And by Thursday, our high, about 90 the heat index still about 100 prior to more storms by Friday. That's when we start to see some relief from the more intense heat. Here's 4 p.m. on Futurecast and you see most of our scattered storms near into the west of the triangle and then moving east of that point up until about eight or 9 p.m. So there's a pretty narrow window for scattered storms today. After sunset. That chance will go down front starts to come into the area that's going to be the catalyst for more showers and storms Thursday. And it looks like a greater concentration of showers and storms heading through the afternoon and the evening, once again, looks to be like pretty typical times and then after sunset, that chance will gradually start to go down for us. But what this does is it triggers kind of AAA different weather pattern. It's not going to be all day rains mostly afternoon and evening time frame, localized flooding because of just how much moisture there is. This is a pattern that lasts quite some time as well. So as we look ahead to the weekend, the yellow there indicating a little iffy for some afternoon plans at least. But some good news is that we finally break this intense heat. Last time we had four days in a row or more of high temperatures below 90. You have to go back to late May and early June. Today, we're well above 90. That's why the heat advisory in effect from the National Weather Service storm chances today look to be pretty scattered. They look more numerous Thursday. Our front mostly triggers storms south of the triangle on Friday. But as we head into the weekend, storms will be scattered to numerous at times, especially during your afternoon and evening hours.
