Friday is a WRAL Weather Alert Day with rain likely and flash flooding possible. Rainfall totals will likely range from half-an-inch to two inches from west to east. A flood watch is in effect for central North Carolina.

<p>I'm meteorologist K Campbell and the W MOAL severe weather center Friday is a W moal weather alert day due to the high impact rain and the threat for some heavy rain leading to flooding as well. The entire viewing area is under a flood watch and this is from midnight all the way through Friday evening. So our new run of Future Cast, this is our in house model is still showing 1 to 2 inches of rain for the eastern half of our viewing area and that does include much of the triangle and Fayetteville as well and the western part of our viewing area closer to that half an inch to an inch. But keep in mind, there could be some totals even higher than this where we see some of the heavier bands of rain and storms set up. But boy do we need the rain. Our drought status was updated today. No huge changes in our viewing area. It's still a moderate drought for most of us with some of us under the severe drought in parts of Edgecombe, Wilson and Wayne counties. But now there's even an extreme drought closer to White Lake in Columbus County. So let's talk about what's going to bring us some much needed rain. We've got this front that's stalled out over eastern North Carolina. It is expected to push inland overnight. So we're actually going to see some of this rain moving from east to west as we head throughout the overnight hours, rain chances begin to climb. It will be some scattered showers and even for the morning commute, there's rain and storms out there. Not everybody is going to be running into those on the road. Check in with meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner. Before you leave the house, she'll detail where your commute or your morning run could be impacted by the rain. But once we get past lunchtime, I think that's when our heavy rain threat really begins to ramp up with these stronger storms possible. And again, we're not really looking at a severe weather threat as much as just really heavy rain in those storms with some lightning possible for the high 82. It's going to feel cool compared to what we've seen lately. A 90% chance for rain Friday 90 on Saturday with a 40% storm chance 97 on Sunday with lower storm chances. Now keep in mind we stay in the tropical category on muggy meter through the weekend. So even though we're in the eighties Friday, it may not feel all that great due points are going to be in the seventies. Not quite that drier. Feel to the air that we woke up to this morning Friday, a wr weather alert day. Then we transitioned back to the normal summer weather from Saturday with some just afternoon scattered thunderstorms possible by Sunday, 9799 degrees on Monday, 100 Tuesday and 99 next Wednesday. Toward the end of next week, rain chances may begin to climb again.</p>
