Potential Tropical Cyclone #6 is moving northward as Francine in the coming days. WRAL meteorologists are also watching two other waves that have a good chance of developing in the Atlantic.

Hurricane season 2024: New system forming in Atlantic likely to become Francine

I'm meteorologist Chris Michaels with an update on the tropics and we have potential tropical cyclone six. This is basically a tropical storm but without the defined center. So this is going to become tropical storm Francine at some point today before curving toward the Louisiana coastline as we head into late Wednesday, very early Thursday. You'll notice the center of the storm is going be well to our west. So it does not look like we're going to see most of the significant rain with this one, but there is some significant rain potential as you head toward the upstate of South Carolina, Western North Carolina, especially just because there's upslope motion in the wind around the storm. And so it's going to give them some heavier rain, but most forecast data shows less than half an inch of rain for us by Friday through Sunday. Behind this system, there's a pair of other ones in the Open Atlantic with a 60% chance of development over the next seven days, one of which has some new data coming in on it and we're sharing that with you here on this uh Monday and you can see that it starts to go toward the lesser antilles before potentially making a curve to the north. So the early indications are that this wouldn't have it direct impact on us. The hope would be that frontal systems over the eastern US would drag it away, but it's really too soon to know for sure if we're going to see any impact from that one. But it is kind of interesting now that we've gone 18 to 20 days without tropical activity. Now, things starting to wake it, wake up in the Atlantic, make sure that you're keeping it with us here at Wral for continuous updates.
