WakeMed campus police officer Roger Smith died in a Saturday morning shooting at the WakeMed Garner Healthplex. Smith was called a "local hero" by Knightdale police, where he worked for 16 years.

BUT THEY SAID SMITH LATER DIED FROM HIS INJURIES. GARNER. POLICE DO HAVE A PERSON IN CUSTODY AT THIS TIME RIGHT NOW THERE IS NO THREAT TO THE PUBLIC. NOW WE KNOW THE OFFICERS WERE CALLED TO THE SCENE AROUND 9 THIS MORNING. THERE WAS A VERY HEAVY POLICE PRESENCE THERE. THE STATE BUREAU OF INVESTIGATION IS NOW ON SCENE AS WELL INVESTIGATING IT.
