Hurricane Beryl has restrengthened into a Category 5 hurricane, reaching wind speeds of 165 mph.

I'm meteorologist K Campbell here with your tropical update. Hurricane Barrel is the earliest category four hurricane that's ever formed in the Atlantic Ocean and this storm is menacing, it made landfall earlier this morning and you can see a clear defined eye, some of the areas that will be impacted next, perhaps will be uh Jamaica as well as parts of Mexico and that includes Cancun. So this is one to watch. Its top winds are 100 and 50 miles an hour. A category five hurricane is 157 MPH, so incredibly strong, especially this early in the season. And it's really moving quickly to the west northwest at 21 MPH. It should still be a major hurricane as it comes close to Jamaica as we get Wednesday into Thursday. And the greatest impacts for Mexico around Cozumel and Cancun would come on Friday and that would likely be closer to category one or two hurricane during the time it could make potential impact. Now, does it have any impact on the Gulf of Mexico? We are seeing more of a trend on some of the European model ensembles carrying the storm to the north in the long range as we get into Sunday and early next week. However, the bulk of the model plots carry it into Mexico and keep itself as this strong area of high pressure continues to steer it west. However, if this storm does become stronger, it may actually be able to overcome this s and curve a bit more to the north. So that's something we'll be watching for you in the coming days. There's another system to watch this one right behind Barrel. About a 50% chance this could develop. It's actually down previously, it was a 60% chance that it could come together develop. It's got some wind shear, it may have to overcome. And most of the models this afternoon don't ever have it developing, but we'll keep an eye on it for you. The next name on the list is Debbie.
