WRAL News received reports of sirens going off at Shearon Harris Nuclear Power Plant Monday morning. Wake County officials said there is no emergency, and Duke Energy officials are working to determine what caused the sirens to be activated.

THAT ALERT SENT OUT AROUND 8.40 THIS MORNING SAYING SIRENS WERE ACTIVATED, BUT THERE WAS NO EMERGENCY. WRAL REACHED OUT TO DUKE ENERGY OFFICIALS JUST MOMENTS AGO. THEY GOT BACK TO US CONFIRMING THE SIRENS INADVERTENTLY SOUNDED THE PLANT IS OPERATING SAFELY AND THERE IS NO EMERGENCY AT THE NUCLEAR PLANT. WE'VE ALSO RECEIVE STATEMENTS JUST MINUTES AGO FROM WAKE COUNTY AND CHATHAM COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT OPERATION CENTER SAYING THERE IS NO EMERGENCY AT THE HARRIS NUCLEAR PLANT. DUKE ENERGY IS WORKING WITH LOCAL COUNTY AND STATE EMERGENCY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT TO FIGURE OUT WHY THE SIRENS WENT OFF AND WRAL WILL CONTINUE PRESSING EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT OFFICIALS</p>
