Dangerous heat across the Triangle has prompted a heat advisory and a WRAL Weather Alert Day.

More heat, Level 1 risk for severe storms Monday after hottest day of the year

Good morning. I'm meteorologist, Elizabeth Gardner. It is all about the heat, of course, all week long. However, we do have a little twist today. We have a chance of some showers and thunderstorms in our south and eastern counties. If you're safe from Durham northward and westward, you're unlikely to see any rain this week. But some folks may especially for today. And again, Thursday temperatures will be in the mid nineties. We hit 100 yesterday, so a little cooler, I'm not cool enough that you're going to notice a difference, but it does keep us out of a heat advisory. Heat advisory would feel like 105 or hotter and it's not going to quite be there, but it will feel like 100. So you do still need to be careful out there radar showing a cold front dropping in on us and that's going to drop our humidity just a touch just enough to keep us out of that heat advisory for today. Here's future cast and you can see that front moving through by around lunch time, an isolated shower south or east of the triangle Fayetteville, Clinton, Goldsboro, Rocky Mountain even say around Southern Pines or even Lee County might see a stray shower. This is basically over by the time we get to six or seven o'clock in the evening and then it won't be until say Thursday before we have a better chance. Again. 75 the muggy meter this morning. And that is just incredibly high, around 10 degrees higher than it was last week. You know, we got to Friday and Saturday and it got really sticky on us. But, um, you know, much of last week was still pretty comfortable. So with that cold front today, we're going to drop it down a little bit back to around humid, maybe even tolerable Tuesday. But by the time we get to Thursday, we've pumped it back up to tropical. So we'll be watching Wednesday and Thursday, in particular for the potential for another heat advisory. Right now, the heat advisories are well to our rest across parts of the Midwest and the plains and nothing much on the east coast for today. Normal highs 89 but we'll see 895 today. 96 Tuesday will be close to 100 for Wednesday and we did hit 100 on Sunday and then we're back into the mid nineties, Thursday and Friday with a chance of some showers and storms. So that heat index will be 98 to 100 today and Tuesday. But then potentially in that danger zone for Wednesday and Thursday, maybe even Friday. So a close eye on that best chances for rain, of course, this afternoon in our south and eastern counties of 40% and then a 60% chance on Thursday. And that will be a little better, more widespread chance across the area.
