Dangerous heat across the Triangle has prompted a heat advisory and a WRAL Weather Alert Day.

I'm urologist, Amy Wilmoth in the WRL severe weather center. It's a weather alert day today because of the high heat. We have a heat advisory in effect for everyone from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. And the heat index could get up to about 104. Today. High temperatures this afternoon will climb into the mid to upper nineties for most areas. 97 in Raleigh, 96 in Fayetteville, 97 in Rocky Mount. So very hot temperatures today and this is some heat that's going to continue throughout most of the week. High temperatures will be in the mid to upper nineties. Heat index values will be in the triple digits most days. So Monday, a heat index of 102 Tuesday. Not that bad. We have a cold front that's going to move through that will bring in some drier air. So it feels like temperature won't be too bad. 95 but then 106, Wednesday, 105, Thursday, 102 Friday. So this is an extended period of time that we have the potential for some dangerous heat. We do have this cold front that's to the north and west of us, we might see an isolated shower storm late this evening or early tonight. And then another chance for a stray shower or storm tomorrow. But rain, chances are fairly low over the next couple of days. A look at futurecast through the day today, we'll have partly cloudy skies and again, just a slim chance for a shower late this evening. Most of you are going to stay dry and the bigger story will be the heat. So try to stay inside if you can. Most of the day. 97 today, heat advisory in place heat index up to 104 another weather alert day for tomorrow because of the high heat 95 for the high heat index values into the triple digits a little bit of a break Tuesday with a high of 94 but back up to 99 Wednesday and then we'll have a slightly better chance for some showers and storms heading into Thursday and still a few storms as we head into Friday as well.
