Scattered storms are expected to roll in during the afternoon and evening, possibly creating a messy drive home for drivers.

Heavy rain, flooding threat across central NC this weekend 

<p>I'm meteorologist, Kat Campbell in the wr a severe weather center. Happy Friday. A flood risk remains in effect, a moderate risk for flooding from the Triangle South and a low end threat for our northern counties. Now, keep in mind it doesn't mean everybody in this area is going to see flooding. It just means that there is that risk in this region. And we've already seen that today with some flooding that was reported earlier in Durham, our front is stuck over North Carolina and it's just going to kind of waver slightly back and forth across state through the weekend. We have plenty of moisture to work with. If you step outside, you can feel it. It is definitely humid out there. You combine that moisture with the lift along this front. You got everything that you need for rain. So at any point in time, we can't rule out rain, but there are times that favor rain more than others. So let's get into the weekend. Not so hot. 87 Saturday, 88 Sunday, lows in the mid seventies. So it's still pretty muggy out there. There will be a small chance for rain. Saturday morning. I think that we're going to see a few showers push through overnight. They should gradually dissipate as they move through. But there's a chance that they could hold together. So we've got that small chance early in the day, the chance up to 40% of storms by four o'clock and a 50% chance. 678 o'clock Saturday evening, here's what our in house run up. Future cast is showing through noon. Things are pretty quiet. A few sprinkles in the morning. And then as we get into the afternoon and evening, we see an axis of rainfall setting up and we'll see scattered showers and storms form along that and into Saturday night, well, overnight will dry out. It looks like Sunday morning should be off to a dry but cloudy start and the storms could pop up a little bit earlier in the afternoon. Sunday. Compared to the time they begin to fire up on Saturday, there will be a threat for an isolated severe storm. Saturday, damaging wind gusts would be the primary threat there. The hail threat on the low end and then the flooding risk is actually low in threat for the area for the day. Saturday. So not as high as what we've seen for Friday and Thursday as for how much rain we could see. I think our in house model is a bit overdone here but I think half an inch to an inch of rain through Sunday is a pretty good bet if you live around the triangle over the next seven days, not too hot out there. 90 degrees on Tuesday, that's our only 90 on the seven day forecast. And in the meantime, it's going to be quite unsettled with the heat next week. It's unsettled as well. Each day features at least a chance for rain and thunderstorms. No day looks like a total washout and this pattern is likely to continue into the end of next week.</p>
