We'll see a lot of cloud cover on Sunday and more scattered storms in the afternoon. Highs will peak in the upper 80s, but the humidity will still be strong.

Sunday brings slight cooldown with chance of storms and flooding in the afternoon

<p>Happy Sunday. I'm meteorologist, Chris Michaels in the Wral severe weather center. A break from the intense heat today, it's still gonna be hot, still gonna be humid. It's July in North Carolina, right? We expect that, but at least we're not looking at the heat index near 110 or anything like that. Along with the heat and humidity. We do see the chance for some showers and storms. So let's kind of walk you through the timing of all this. Here's your hour by hour. The heat index still gets close to about 98 to 101 this afternoon. That more or less is typical for early July in North Carolina. So you do see the chance for showers and storms as well during those typical afternoon and evening hours. Now, when we showed you this flood risk map yesterday, it was yellow at a level two. That's why we had a couple flash flood warnings in effect yesterday evening. Those have since expired today. Our flood risk is at a level one futurecast. This is lunchtime. And what you'll notice is those red arrows kind of converging as the air rising and once it rises kind of wings out the humidity like wet towel. So we start out with pop up storms around noon and then as we head deeper into the afternoon, you see that showers and storms will blossom a little bit more. Most of these will near to the south of interstate 40. Again, a few flood advisories cannot be ruled out. But after about nine pm or so, we lose the heat of the day and lose that chance for showers and storms. Meanwhile, Beryl is a tropical storm. As of the latest advisory from the National Hurricane Center, some moisture from it will start to work its way a little bit farther to the north. Now, we're not going to see a direct impact from this, but you do see rain chances starting to rise later this week. At which point we'll see, uh, some heavy rain in parts of the area. Storms will be scattered to at times numerous early. This week, storms look to be pretty isolated. Temperatures rise a bit more highs low to mid nineties will reach about 88 to 90 degrees later this week. Lows at night in the seventies, very humid.</p>
