“A Trail of Burke & Hare” is a unique experience that blends a self-guided walking tour with immersive escape room puzzles, perfect for tourists keen to uncover Edinburgh’s dark history and locals eager to see their city in a thrilling new way.
A body has been discovered in The Cowgate, bearing wounds that eerily recall Edinburgh’s most infamous murderers, Burke and Hare. Beside the corpse lies a satchel, deliberately placed with an ominous message. The killer is obsessed with the notorious duo, promising more deaths unless the morbid puzzle is solved.
Participants descend into Edinburgh’s darkest past, exploring real historical sites while racing to uncover the identity of the next victim — and save them if they can.
The trail lasts about two hours and covers 4 to 5 kilometres on foot, accommodating groups from two to thirty players. Along the way, players solve tactile escape room-style puzzles using authentic maps, locks, and clues hidden in the urban environment, all while discovering secrets hidden in plain sight.
Booking online secures a convenient time slot to collect a satchel from a central Edinburgh location, where players receive instructions and details on when to return it.
