Whitestone Developments and Empower CDC partner with EcoFlow to host a Family Day of Disaster Preparedness Set for July 26 at Discovery Green

With hurricane season in full swing, emergency readiness has never been more critical. That’s why Whitestone Developments and Empower CDC, in partnership with Eco Flow, are hosting “Get Ready, Houston!”—a free, family-friendly community event focused on disaster preparedness—on Saturday, July 26, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM at Discovery Green (1500 McKinney St, Houston, TX 77010).
This large-scale community event is designed to educate, empower, and equip Houston families, particularly seniors and ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) households with the resources and knowledge needed to weather any storm. From backup generator demonstrations to emergency kits and hurricane readiness tips, attendees will leave better prepared to protect themselves and their loved ones before, during, and after disasters.
Whitestone Developments and Empower CDC response to a Growing Threat
Every year the frequency and intensity of weather-related storm events in Houston, including hurricanes, heatwaves, and widespread power outages continue to rise. Events like Hurricane Beryl (2024) and Winter Storm Uri (2021) call attention to the urgent need for families to have reliable backup power, evacuation plans, and community support networks.

In addition to activities and educational programming, the event will feature information and staff onsite enrolling attendees in the generator giveaway program, free preparedness kits, interactive stations for kids, local food vendors, and opportunities to connect with community organizations focused on disaster response and recovery.
