Terminus Modern Ballet Theatre Opens Ninth Season with “Out of the Box: Series III,” Welcomes New Dancers and Protégés

Intimate mixed bill runs Sept. 20–28 at Tula Arts Center’s “White Box Theatre”; bold new choreography underscores the company’s mission to make dance accessible to all

(PRUnderground) September 24th, 2025

Terminus Modern Ballet Theatre (TMBT) proudly opens its ninth season with Out of the Box: Series III, the latest installment of the innovative in-house performance series, Sept. 20–28 at Tula Arts Center (the “White Box Theatre”). The program continues TMBT’s reputation as one of America’s most forward-looking dance companies—pairing classical rigor with contemporary invention—and its commitment to making dance a connector for the whole community.

TMBT also introduces new dancers and protégés who will train and perform alongside company members and resident guest artists, advancing the organization’s pipeline for rising professional talent.

2025–26 New Company Members

  • ALEX BROWN — An Atlanta-area native, Alex’s crisp musicality and grounded lyricism have already turned heads. Brown earned a BFA in Dance Performance and Choreography from Belhaven University in 2020, where he received the Refiners Award and worked with artists including Steve Rooks, Ravenna Tucker‑Wagnon, and David Keary. Summer study took him to Kansas City Ballet, training with Sarah Lamb and Charmaine Hunter—an experience that sharpened a style equally at home in classical line and contemporary drive. Before joining TMBT, Brown danced with Dallas’s Bruce Wood Dance and taught across the region, building a reputation for generous artistry and rigor. His TMBT debut in September’s Out of the Box: Series offers a fitting canvas for a performer who prizes clarity, musical intelligence, presence, and audience connection.
  • DAVID WEST — A classically trained artist with contemporary drive, West began ballet at age 10 at Petrov Ballet School in Waldwick, New Jersey. After reaching the 2019 Youth America Grand Prix finals, he was invited by Peter Stark to join the Boston Ballet School as a trainee. He later performed with Ballet Unleashed and appeared in Kathy Marston’s virtual dance film “Switchback.” In 2021, West joined Orlando Ballet, where he performed a broad repertory over four seasons, including DJ in Val Caniparoli’s “Lambarena” and Bugle Boy in Paul Taylor’s “Company B.” This season, he makes his TMBT debut in “Out of the Box: Series III.” With crisp musicality, athletic lines, and a grounded stage presence, West brings a bright new voice to Atlanta’s inventive contemporary ballet scene.

2025–26 Company Protégés

  • BRINLY TREDWAY — A native Georgian, Tredway began dancing at age 3 across multiple styles; lead roles in “The Nutcracker” (Dewdrop, Arabian); former TMBT Student Company member; appearances at Regional Dance America and the Outstanding Soloist program.
  • JOHANNA “JOJO” WU — Now in her second season with TMBT, Wu started dancing at age 5; featured roles include Sugarplum Fairy; Senior Outstanding Classical Soloist at Regional Dance America SE (2023, 2024), and bronze medalist at the 2025 World Ballet Competition.

“As we begin our ninth season, my gratitude to our growing community is at an all-time high,” said John Welker, artistic director of TMBT. “We set out to build a home for artists who dance with both gravitas and heart. Welcoming JoJo and Brinly affirms our promise to create compelling contemporary work while nurturing the next generation.”

Program Highlights:

  • World premiere by Cammi Nevarez — a fresh, unexpected lens on classical ballet language.
  • New creation by TMBT co-founder, Tara Lee — an intimate work capturing the kinetic joy and ephemeral nature of live performance.
  • Return of “Balanced” by Jimmy Orrante— a visually striking audience favorite exploring harmony and counterpoint.

Far from “tutus and stuffy performances,” TMBT creates work that is bold, intimate, and welcoming—bringing audiences close to the craft and inviting new viewers into ballet as a living, local form of expression. Through performances, school programs, neighborhood engagements, and affordable ticketing initiatives, TMBT expands access to dance in Atlanta and beyond.

As an independent nonprofit, TMBT relies on philanthropic partners to underwrite new choreography,  artist residencies, education programs, and community access. Sponsorships and individual gifts help keep tickets affordable and ensure new voices are heard on Atlanta stages.
