What Happened?

Shares of enterprise software company Workday (NASDAQ: WDAY) jumped 4.5% in the afternoon session after Bank of America significantly raised its price target on the stock, while Barclays reiterated a positive rating, a TipRanks report revealed.

According to a research note from Bank of America, the firm increased its price target on Workday to $205 from $140 but maintained a Neutral rating on the shares. The analyst cited broad-based software multiple expansion, improving growth at select infrastructure companies, and easing concerns about disruption from artificial intelligence as reasons for the re-rating. Separately, Barclays reiterated its Overweight rating and $200 price target on the stock ahead of the company's fiscal second-quarter earnings report, as noted by Investing.com.

After the initial pop, the shares cooled down to $198.28, up 4% from the previous close.

What Is The Market Telling Us

Workday’s shares are extremely volatile and have had 34 moves greater than 5% over the last year. In that context, today’s move indicates the market considers this news meaningful but not something that would fundamentally change its perception of the business.

The previous big move we wrote about was 16 days ago when the stock gained 2.4% on the news that the software sector caught a massive tailwind, fueled by easing geopolitical tensions and a fresh wave of AI-driven M&A.

Over the weekend, President Trump abruptly called off a planned military offensive against Iran. Yielding to pressure from Gulf allies, the administration shifted toward diplomatic talks to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

This critical de-escalation relieved pressure on global energy markets and inflation expectations, accelerating a drop in Treasury yields. For software, this shifting macro backdrop is the perfect catalyst. Lower interest rates reduce the discount rate applied to expected future cash flows, driving capital back into growth-oriented tech equities.

Workday is down 3.6% since the beginning of the year, and at $198.28 per share, it is trading 19.9% below its 52-week high of $247.69 from September 2025. Investors who bought $1,000 worth of Workday’s shares 5 years ago would now be looking at only $855.05.

ONE MORE THING: The $21 AI Application Stock Wall Street Forgot. While Wall Street obsesses over who’s building AI, one company is already using it to print money. And nobody’s paying attention.

AI chip stocks trade at ridiculous valuations. This company processes a trillion consumer signals monthly using AI and trades at a third of the price. The gap won’t last. The institutions will figure it out. You need to see this first. Read the FREE Report Before They Notice.
